Thirty years ago today, I was in the right place at the right time to experience one of the greatest blessings of my life. Seven months prior to this encounter, I had walked into the woods one day to talk with God about a new desire that had entered my heart. This desire was to meet the right woman to marry and settle down with. I suspected He had given me this desire as settling down had been the last thing on my mind up until then. And I knew it was no coincidence that I had committed my life to Him earlier that year.I was frustrated because I had started looking for the right woman but was overwhelmed. I told God that I believed this desire was from Him, so therefore He must know who this woman was. That being the case, I decided to commit this desire to him and trust that He would bring her into my life at the right time.Seven months later my parents had a chicken barbeque at their home for the women’s crew team of Syracuse University. One of my sisters was on the team and the other was their assistant coach. My friend Jeff and I planned to help my parents set up the barbeque and then leave before the team arrived.The preparations for the barbeque ended up taking longer than we anticipated and before we knew it, a busload of hungry women had arrived. Most of them made their way directly to the food but one young woman that I had never seen before was walking around the yard with my father admiring the trees that surrounded their home. My father then introduced her to my mother who pointed her in my direction saying, “Stephen, she also lived in Florida.” At that God orchestrated moment I met my precious wife Deb and my life has never been the same, praise God!
